Hi,
I've been searching high and low for pertinent advice on my issue.
I started a position as a field engineer in Sept 2014 (on 3 month probation - passed without issue), and was told that I would be trained up to fix high level hardware for a 3rd party contract, amongst other more mundane repairs for other companies.
It wasn't until 2 months later that I was told that the 3rd party required all field engineers to undergo very high level police vetting. If I'd known this, I wouldn't have bothered applying as I have a caution from a couple of decades ago that I knew would fail me. Subsequently, I saw that on other similar positions the requirement was on the job advertisement, but not on mine and neither the employer or agency I went through told me.
Now I have failed the vetting as expected and have appealed but doubt I will pass that. The work I have been given for this 3rd party amounts to 4 calls a year so far, so is definitely not a major part of my daily work. My reading around so far is that, because I've been employed less than 2 years, the company can effectively dismiss me without reason.
Can anyone confirm this so I can start looking for a new job now?!
Many thanks in advance.
