Bit of a silly question I know but I'm having a set to with my employer over this very question.
I work a 4 day on & 4 day off 12hr shift.
I've worked for the company for 14 years and started initially on a mon to fri 6am 2pm then 2pm 10pm shift obtaining 25 days holiday plus 8 days bank holidays. On completion of 5 & 10 years service we are awarded an extra days long service holiday.
After a few years of working this shift I changed to the 4 on/4 off shift pattern and my holidays changed for obvious reasons. My 25 days @ 7.5 hours +187.5 hours divided by 11.5 = 16.3 days!! This has since been increased top 19.5 days @ 11.5 hours
A few years ago the company awarded us 5.5 days @ 11.5 hours for bank holidays as we previously only got a bank holiday if we worked it and got a lieu day for this.
It has now become apparent to me that I am not receiving my 2 long service holidays @ 11.5 hours - I get 17.25 hours and not the 23 - the reasons for this have been explained to me but I'm not really understanding the logic in this calculation.
I have tried to find out the legal definition of how long a days holiday is but to no avail - My thinking is that if a days work is 6 hours you get a day off @ 6 hours etc.
Can anyone please enlighten me on this matter
thanks in advance
regards
