Hello,
I have an issue which is worrying me and I was wondering if I could receive any advice from the knowledgeable members of this forums.
Firstly it is important for this that I inform you I am paid from the moment if get in my van at home, untill the moment i return home.
I am and Field Service Engineer who works within London (95% of work in the City). I currently reside (with my parents) near Bromley and I am in the process of purchasing my first house (the house is Horley, Surrey), which brings me to my problem. When I informed my work of the intent to relocate my home (could not afford to buy a house in greater London), I was originally informed this should not be a problem, however I have now been informed they are going to investigate the situation.. Although I could be jumping the gun and they may be accommodating, I am concerned they may use the move (approx 30 mins extra commute) to try to reduce my salary or add an 30mins un-paid driving time clause for example.
What are my rights with respect to the above, I was open with the company when they employed my of my intent to buy a house and that it may around the area I did end up purchasing in, and there is nothing in my contract to state that anything should change if I were to relocate.
It is also import to add that 50% of the other Engineers I work with live a similar distance or further than the location I will be moving too.
Any advice would be fantastic, it's an issue that is making my buying my first home even more stressful than it already is.
Thank you for your time and apologies for the overuse of brackets!
