  • 2 full-time jobs at the same time in 2 countries?

    Hello

I have 3 questions about a particular scenario, if someone can help:

    1) Is it illegal for someone to be on full-time payroll at the same time in different companies in two different countries, eg USA and some other country in Europe? Of course, the person cannot be physically be present full-time in 2 companies at the same time, but can he be on some sort of "leave of absence" in one, and actually working in the other.

    2) in the same scenario: Lets say John is working full-time in company A in England. He goes on a lengthy "leave of absence", and accepts full-time employment in USA in Company B. Before he actually starts working at Company B, will this company require him to produce some sort of letter saying that he is no longer employed at company A?

    3) John got a work visa to work at Company B in USA. When he first enters USA to start working at company B, will the border officer require him to show a letter proving that he is no longer working at Company A?

    Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't think it was illegal, but I would expect each company would want to know about their employees relationship with the other company, i.e. that they give permission for the employee to work for both.

Not necessarily 'no longer employed', but at least that they are aware of and give permission for them to work for the second company.

Probably not, just a letter from the USA company confirming the job.

This is just my opinion from experience, not based on legal fact.
They were out to get me!! But now it's too late!!

It may not be illegal in terms of being something you can be sued or prosecuted for but I'd say it's very likely to be a sackable offence if the employers find out. A

It all depends on the conditions under which he was employed by the American company, it may well be they don't care as long as there's no conflict of interest and doesn't affect them.

No, US immigration won't be concerned with that at all, they'll just want to check he's entering the country on a valid visa.
