My partner has worked for a company for 4 months on a fixed term contract. He was given his one weeks notice last week which started on Monday. The reason they give was a downturn in work. They apparently had just lost a big contract. He has gone into work tonight and they have a list up requesting names of staff to do overtime. Is this allowed?
I have been a union rep for a few years now and this has me stumped. I didn't think it would be but my partner has been told by his rep that the company can and as long as staff put their names on it overtime will go ahead.
He is not the only person that has been given their notice but i believe it is less than 50.
