  • Redundancy and roles elsewhere in the group of companies.

Hi there, i work for an insurance broker who is owed by a global insurance company and we share the same offices. In the redundancy letter all that is mentioned about redeployment is a link to the careers section of insurance company. The letter also says if we accept a job in the group then we will lose the right to any redundancy pay. However the job I've applied for is 6k less annually than what I'm earning a t the moment. I'm part time at 21 hours and basically if need to work 28 or 30 hours in the new job to make the same money as my current /last job. My question us that I'm not actually being redeployed as they haven't assisted me in finding roles within the group and in any case the only role I can do part tine is the one ive applied for, which is a considerable drop in pay, even the full time roles are all less than what I earn. Apparently if I get the job then it will be 4 weeks trial and if it works out then it'll be permanent, if not I get paid off with my redundancy pay. I really feel that my employer has done nothing to assist me and a t me and the other job was never actually offered to me I just saw it on the website as nd applied as I knew it was my only option to work part time. I am struggling to find part tine work elsewhere, if I do its all min wage a d I am going to suffer financially whatever I do and I'll not get my redundancy pay if I get the other role. From what I've read you don't get redundancy pay if your redeployed, whereas I don't actually think this is redeployment. Also if it was redeployment then the role is a step down and a lot less pay so should my pay be kept the same as what I'm on?

Sorry for spelling and grammar, it's this phone I'm using I'm not used to the touch screen yet lol. Oh and I shouldve said at the start I've been made redundant. All our branch has, they are moving the work to another office. The only kind of redeployment attempt was "you can apply for the roles in the Leeds office"...but our office is in Glasgow and relocation is not am option for me.

If you saw the job on a website and applied for it in person, then it is not redeployment.
It is a new job, with a new contract.
Redundancy is a form of dismissal from your job. It happens when employers need to reduce their workforce.
If you’re being made redundant, you might be eligible for certain rights, including:
      • redundancy pay
      • a notice period
      • a consultation with your employer
      • the option to move into a different job
      • time off to find a new job

You must be selected for redundancy in a fair way, eg because of your level of experience or capability to do the job.
You can’t be selected because of age, gender, or if you’re disabled or pregnant etc. If you are, this could be classed as unfair dismissal.
Your employer should use a fair and objective way of selecting you for redundancy.
      Commonly used methods are:
      • last in, first out (employees with the shortest length of service are selected first)
      • asking for volunteers (self-selection)
      • disciplinary records
      • staff appraisal markings, skills, qualifications and experience

Your employer can make you redundant without having to follow a selection process if your job no longer exists, eg if:
      • your employer is closing down a whole operation in a company and making all the employees working in it redundant
      • you’re the only employee in your part of the organisation
      • Your employer may offer a different role, if one is available.

You can’t be selected for the following reasons - your redundancy would be classed as an unfair dismissal:
      • gender
      • marital status
      • sexual orientation
      • race
      • disability
      • religion or belief
      • age
      • your membership or non-membership of a trade union
      • health and safety activities
      • working pattern (eg part-time or fixed-term employees)
      • maternity leave, birth or pregnancy
      • paternity leave, parental or dependants leave
      • you’re exercising your statutory rights
      • whistleblowing (eg making disclosures about your employer’s wrongdoing)
      • taking part in lawful industrial action lasting 12 weeks or less
      • taking action on health and safety grounds
      • doing jury service
      • you’re the trustee of a company pension scheme

I suggest you read the following link, it will tell you your rights to be consulted with.
