  • Admin Charges for Employment

The company I work for has been deducting £20 - £22 per month from our salaries under the title T&C Charges.

I asked what the deduction was for and they said ' Admin Charges'

There is no reason on earth that the employees should be funding the office staff or whatever guise this money is removed from our pay. or is there?

I have paid this, monthly, since January 2008.

    Sounds very odd.

Are you employed via an agency?

If not, I take it this is not referred to in your contract of employment?

What type of work is it (can't think how that might be relevant but you never know)

Sounds like you might be employed by an Umbrella Company. Are you paid directly by the firm you are working for or another firm ? Who pays your NI and tax ?

There's a few threads on here recently regarding these Umbrella companies so have a search and I'm sure someone will look in later who knows a fair bit on this subject. It's usually agency as Steve has said, and usually contract type work - like building, cleaning etc where you would otherwise be self employed.

Any support I provide is offered without liability, if you are unsure please seek professional legal guidance.

It is the company I work for. I am a security officer who works many different places over a region covering for sicko's and holidays etc. I have never seen an admin charge for any company I worked for except this one. I need to check my contract again, when I can find it

I also had to pay £192 for uniform, a job requirement.
