  • Secondment

    Hi

I hope you can help. I have a HR meeting on Monday 9th June, with reference to my current role.

I have been with the company, in the same role for 8 years. I am being told to my current job role has ceased and they want me to go on a two year secondment which I feel the role and duties are not comparable to my existing role. To be honest I feel that I am being forced to take this role.

I have had no consultation just 2 meetings explaining to be that I will be joining the secondment team. I am on the same terms and conditions.

My first problem is my role is a "National Role" and for the last 8 years I could be away from home some weeks 1 night some weeks 2 and some weeks no nights away. The company are asking from me to work away a minimum of 3 nights every week, this I feel is not suitable.

The role that are asking me to do involves working with stock and in the warehouse which I have no product or warehouse knowledge. I am a system and administration trainer.

4 members of of my team have been offered other secondments but I have not been asked or made aware they existed, I could not express my interest.

Last point, if my current role has finished should I not be on notice of redundancy? My manger has stated that your role job / tile will still be the same during the secondment. After the secondment comes to an end I have no job to go back into. I feel my current role should be redundant and I should be on notice. Therefore, I could have the option to take the secondment if suitable.

I would appreciate any advice you could give me.

    Thank you

    Re: Secondment

Your existing job is finished. The job on offer is both different and temporary. You should be asking them what redundancy package they are willing to offer - which, with 8 years service, should be fairly respectable.

And that may be what they are trying to avoid.
