  • advice needed please

Hi I would like some advice as to know where I stand as I think I haven't been treated correctly, I started working for a company on the 7th January 2013 and have done so since then. On Saturday the 10th may 2014 I received a letter in the post stating that further to our meeting my employment is terminated with immediate effect.
The letter was the first I knew about any of this as I have not been invited to any meeting or knew there was one taking place.
I then rang my manager to confirm that this letter had not been sent out in error and got the reply ''I'm very sorry you found out like this you wasn't supposed to get a letter until we'd had a chat Monday morning''. I was told in the same conversation that I hadn't done anything wrong and that they were happy with my work and the way I conducted my self and that it was because the company had lost some of its work. I have since asked for them to clarify if my position is redundant and this has been confirmed as the reason for my dismissal although not in writing as yet. my question is are they allowed to do this because of the length of time iv been employed by them is under 2 years, however if my position is redundant how have they decided that as there is quite a lot of employee's that do the same role as myself?

    No they are not allowed.

Sorry no body had picked up on your thread to now, but give me a couple of days, as i have a lot on at the moment, and i will look in to this for you as am pretty certain you may qualify for automatic unfair dismissal (not the say as unfair dismissal), which means the 2 year qualifying period may not apply.

You should in the mean time contact ACAS, to get the ball rolling - Also let me know what they say too.

Though to be honest with you, your redundancy payment would only be 1 weeks wage, so it probably best walking away and finding employment elsewhere.
