Hi

I was suspended from work the same day as I was signed off by my doctor for bullying and stress. I was under investigation at work. I admitted to the mistake and told my employer that I felt that they were pushing me into a corner and I wanted to speak to my union rep and doctor. When I spoke to my doctor he told me to leave and signed me off there and then. I was then off work for three months. Whilst off I have no contact from work other than HR making sure I was ok. Nothing about any investigation only about my health. I was then offered a job with another company and handed my notice in and thought nothing more. I have a letter saying that they excepted and that was that. I have now been offered a job with a company who have asked for a reference. All references have come back fine apart from my old company who have said I resigned whilst under investigation. I have told the company that I was signed off sick when I resigned which is correct. I have never signed anything regarding suspension or investigation. Can my old company give details to my new company without me knowing and how do I find out what the investigation was for. Thanks

If you have given your last employer details and consented to the new company contacting them yes they can, it is not unusual for a new company to contact the old one for references anyway.

As for the investigation, as you probably may have already guessed it will be in connection to your mistake.
