  • Travel reimbursment

    Hi all,

I work for a company in full time employment with our office in West London. My permanent place of work in my contract also states that this is my main place of work.

However, we are contracted out to another company based in the city. And I am pretty much there 4 days a week if not 5.
Sometimes however, I have to be in the client site and then need to travel to our offices during lunch.

Now, I use a prepaid Oyster as generally my travel is only during the week and sometimes I use the bus which is cheaper than tube etc.
I know I can't claim travel expenses to and from my permanent place of work as that is regular commuting. But I thought I could claim the cost of my travel between the client site and office from my employer and they have said no I can't.
Should I be able to claim the cost of travel between home and the client site? Client site and office?

    Appreciate any help

Check your contract - there's usually something about travel in there.

Initially, do you go from your base to the client, or direct to the client from home? You also seem to go backwards and forwards between the client site and base during the day. Is this so?

Quite often I'll go from Home to Client site then to Office and then home. Or the reverse...
Nothing in my contract / handbook about this. Only international travel!

Then i would say, YES you can claim for any additional travel costs, to a place that IS NOT your main work place stated in your CONTRACT. Its known as "traveling in the performance of the duties of the employment" which your entitled to claim travel expenses under section Section 337 ITEPA 2003, where as traveling to and from main work place is classed as ordinary travel where you not entitled to claim travel expenses.
