Re: discipline in work
If you're on an hours break, and away from the work place, is that classed as drinking during working hours?
When I was in "the City" it was almost required one drank at lunchtime. One firm I was with actually had a bar for employees, together with a restaurant, on the lower ground floor, right next to the directors' dining rooms.

Re: discipline in work
So you told him a fib, but what right did he have to question you about what you do in your private life, in your own time away from work. If you had been knocking off his wife & he had questioned you about it, would you then be on a disciplinary for denying it?
I assume your not in an occupation which requires you to abstain from alcohol for a number of hours before working eg airline pilot or train driver, so what concern is it of your employer if it doesn't affect your work?
Others with more knowledge about current working practices will surely be along with other advice, but I'd be
aggressive about this intrusion into my private life.

Re: discipline in work
Can someone please fill me in here, so i can also post some advice?! - From what i can tell at the moment, since the OP edited out his/her original post. Is that they went for a drink during their lunch hour. That alone is not an sackable or disciplinary offense, so long as you didn't return from work under the influence i.e. tipsy/drunk and so long as your not required by the specifics of your work to not touch any alcohol within a certain amount of time prior to work. Please note that this advice is given informally, without liability and without prejudice. Always seek the advice of an insured qualified professional. All my legal and nonlegal knowledge comes from either here (LB),my own personal research and experience and/or as the result of necessity as an Employer and Businessman.
By using my advice in any form, you agreed to waive all rights to hold myself or any persons representing myself of any liability.
If you PM me, make sure to include a link to your thread as I don't give out advice in private. All PMs that are sent in missuse (including but not limited to phishing, spam) of the PM application and/or PMs that are threatening or abusive will be reported to the Site Team and if necessary to the police and/or relevant Authority.
I AM SO GOING TO GET BANNED BY CEL FOR POSTING terrible humour POSTS.

Re: discipline in work
Hi Teaboy,
From memory (o'night sleep wipes brain clean) OP works nights.
Colleague taken ill, so in his hour break op took him home in company car.
On way back to work he stopped in hostelry for a swift one!
Continues to work, stopped for speeding, clear breath test, 3 points
Some one tells manager who questions OP.
OP denies drinking
Now facing disciplinary (gross misconduct!) for lying.
As post has now been edited out I assume probably a nonsense posting as it never really made sense.
Hence my light hearted approach
