hi everyone I am new here and need a bit of advice

I have been off work sick for the last 10 weeks I have been ill and been told by the doctor not to drive till they sort my problem out

I have had tests and it has now been diagnosed that I have arterial fibrillation and I am awaiting electric shock treatment
I have still got a sick note from the doctor and I have to phone the surgery tomorrow to arrange a new sick note till my treatment has been done

my symptoms are I go dizzy and loose my balance as well as I lose the sight in my eye or eyes
I also have blinding headaches and feel sick , there is no pattern to these symptoms they just happen when they want
I have been told that because my heart is skipping and putting in extra beats I am getting blood clots and that could be why I go blind and that is one reason I have been told not to drive

I also have epilepsy and they are not sure if that is playing up again I have been told not to drive

I live 25miles from work so it is hard to get in to work even if the car is broken down and it costs more than I earn a day to get a taxi

my worry is I don't know how long Tesco will keep paying me sick pay and hold my job for me
I don't know if there is a time span that they have to hold your job for you before telling you that they are terminating your contract

the problem is I could be sitting in a chair and I loose my sight or go dizzy , I could get up or just be walking along and loose balance so even if I went to work I could have these problems and hurt myself or even worse someone else if I was driving or operating machinery

so does anybody know how long I am likely to have before I have my contract terminated and what procedures do Tesco have to go through before it gets to that situation

Do you mean Atrial Fibrillation, by any chance, which is known to cause blood clots? The symptoms you describe are more in keeping with a diagnosis of AF. The doctors may have put you on blood-thinning medication, e.g. dispersible aspirin, nifedipine, dipiridamol, clopidogrel or warfarin, to combat blood clots. The electric shock treatment you mention sounds like a cardio-version procedure.

Tesco would need to seek an Occupational Health report as to whether it is wise for you to continue working for them, given the nature of your current position and health issues, before initiating termination of employment procedures. They would also have to see if there was alternative work you could do within the company, again, before resorting to termination procedure.

If you should drop down dead at work, you must personally telephone your manager to arrange for your corpse to be carted away and for your job to be advertised or raffled. Failure to do this may result in pay being deducted from your final pay chit.

you have got it right I was not thinking straight when I wrote the post
my problem is hampered by the fact I have epilepsy and 2 cyst's on the brain so the doctor was having trouble trying to work out what was wrong
they have told me that it may cure all or some of my symptoms and if it does not cure all of them we need to start looking to the brain side of things
all I know is I have an appointment on the 18th February to get started back on the warfarin and an appointment on the 21st February to see the cardiologist that appointment is not at a hospital it is at a diagnostic centre and when I made the appointment the receptionist told me the procedure is done in hospital so I assume it will not be on the 21st

I phoned my doctors today who told me that I have to go back round to them next Monday for another sick note and by the sounds of it they are doing one for the same as last time that's 4 weeks
I have no idea how long Tesco will wait before getting occupational health involved that will be 14 weeks off sick
does anyone know what occupational health do and what they will expect me to do
the problem is other than the tests that have been done I have not had any treatment yet so I cant tell anyone how long it will be till I am fit for work or even if the treatment will work
I just get the feeling I am in the middle between a rock and a hard stone I have the doctors on one side doing tests and now going to do some treatment but none as yet
then on the other side I have Tesco who are chasing me to get back to work or to try to dismiss me to save on money like they do this time of year
Tesco can only see the side that says I have had all this time off and getting paid for it and nothing has been resolved
i don't have much money anyway and to be honest I am a person that worries and I don't want this outcome to be me loosing my job and not being able to pay my mortgage but at the same time I do not want to live like I am at the moment I can not walk very far without falling over or going blind in one or both eyes I have no energy and so on
I don't see why I should put mine and other peoples lives at risk by trying to drive to work
I know I am going on but I am torn between what way to turn

Yet, unless you submit copies of your medical reports and letters from the specialists, you will probably be found to be "fit for work" when "assessed" for ESA by ATOS.

If you have a potential heart condition, Tesco need to be very careful indeed. They should not be hassling you to go back to work if you are awaiting tests. If Tesco already know you have a potential heart condition, they need reminding of their obligations to you under Section 2, Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. Your GP or specialist may wish to send Tesco a very firm letter to this effect. Failing this, they may feel that it would be more prudent to report Tesco to the health and safety inspectors at your local environmental department.

As for worrying about meeting your mortgage repayments, do you have protection to cover the repayments should you only receive Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) or lose your job through ill health?

blobby if you are still looking for advice , i have 6 yrs experince , 3 dismissals , every disiplinary action , dignity at work, informal , final written warnings , prolonged sickness absence , grievances , was covered by dda95 after having dismissl for 3 days back pain , 4 months appeal 2nd stage reinstated as team mgr failed to act on gp letter request lighter uties returned same shift and same mgrs made life misery told oha i had left as gp had report as was agreed at appeal as i had not asked to see copy told no referall , was 3 years and 174 dys of back pain 36 days anixet stress oly paid ssp losst home family and diiplinarys for all absences was usdaaw member and after 3rd dismissal area orgain ser stabbed us in the back got subject access data protection act after 3rd dismissl sage 1 appeal and found all teso poliy procedures occupationa health referalls / gp reports saying covered by dda 95 been 4 years legal battle et eat ongoing also got complaint to pension ombudsman , 6 yrs of being bullied and knew **** all about employment law dda thought that was a learner driving skool lol, i worked in distribution where the mgrs made the rules as they thought nae questions asked poilcy procedure was always what followed the disiplinary decision , and i had no idea that i was being shafted until it was pointed out to me when went to sign on and was told usdaw orgainser was the one that had done the shafting , if u need any help ive got all the checklists policys procedures ,disiplinarys ,

Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is for 26 weeks in any period of 12 months. After that, you would need to find out if you were eligible for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or income Support (IS).
