I young man applied to be a council youth leader and he got the job 'Subject to a satisfactory enhanced level CRB'.
He applied for that CRB and was amazed to note that disclosed on it was a PND ticket-fine offence 'for urinating in public' (actually it was very private).that happened eight years before when he was 18 and for which he paid the fine the following day. He did not get the job but they would not confirm the reason. Surely this is a massive injustice?

An enhanced CRB (now DBS) shows up *everything*, no matter how long ago. From experience if you have issues that come up on your DBS check, most employers will discuss and take into consideration the length of time since the offence, the nature of the offence and the liklihood of it happening again. For obvious reasons, certain offences would prevent you from working with kids or vulnerable adults. From experience of working with offenders, it can be helpful if you inform them that something will show up on your DBS and that you write a letter explaining the circumstances and how you have changed since the offence.
