  • Following sickness procedure

    hi

im really worried that my work place are going to try and give me a disciplinary for not following 'the sickness procedure' as they see fit.
in my work place we have to call every day that we are sick if we are due in that day. i had done this until i had got a sick note from my drs, which i then posted to work. i rung work that day to say to expect it and how long it covered me for. it was signed for 2 days later so on that day forward i didnt call in as royal mail confirmed they had signed for the sick note. I got a further sick note to extend me and again i called work before sending it to say how long i would be off for, the next day royal mail again confirmed they had signed for it, so i continued not to call.
my work place on the other hand have said that they havent had the sick note booked onto their system and that i shouldve kept calling at 8am everyday to confirm i wasnt going to be in as the procedure states. they have classed me as awol everytime i havent called in. i feel this is unfair as i say royalmail have confirmed they have received the sick note and i dont see why i should have to continue to call every day at 8am (especially when ive been suffering from insomnia and need to take sleeping tablets in order to help but cant because of this stupid rule) for days on end until they decide to book on the sick note.

are work able to punish me or not?

    thanks

    sam

If you have the signed for copy then print off and give them a copy of the signature of the person who signed to state that they had received the sick note. Furthermore, you could ask the doctor for copies of the sick note which they will provide and you can provide another copy of the sick note.

Have they docked your pay as a result?

They are not punishing you but if they say that they have not received the sick note then if they accept email then print off the signature(s) of the royal mail receipt and attach them to an email and send it to them.

BTW, if you can scan a copy of the sick notes before sending cos then when they say we have not received them then you can ask for an email address and send it as they have lost the originals.

no they havent docked my pay as yet and they are not stating they have lost them. what they are saying is because the HR department havent booked the sick notes on the system, im being classed as going awol and not following company procedure as ive not called in. i feel i shouldnt have to though as ive got a Proof of postage to say they have signed for it

      thanks

Have they said that they have received them?

no, they have said 'ok you have proof its been signed for but that doesnt mean our hr department have confirmed and booked it on the system'

But it does prove that they were received by the company and therefore you are NOT in breach of the companies rules.

Do you have a name for the person signing for receipt of the sick notes?
Have you asked them if they need a second copy of the sick note?

yea i have the name of the person who has signed for it. ive asked them if they want a 2nd copy and they say its ok just that i should be calling everyday until they book it on the system and as i say i dont see the point if they have signed for it. not my fault it takes them days to book it on

No you shouldn't since if you are marked as AWOL and then they receive the sick note then they can change that to SICKNESS.

Smadge, seriously, are you thinking the same as me, ie how stupid are they?(don't answer that ).

lol ill be honest they are making my life even more stressful (stress is one of the reasons im off) by calling me and asking me where i am, even though i prewarned them when i received the sick note and if they worked more efficiently they would have booked that on the system and know that!
ive looked on our schedule (through online access) and it still says expected sickness on the rota even thought ive told them the proof of postage tracking reference, told them they signed for it friday and they were meant to be looking for it lol

Next time you get a sick note, if you have a scanner then scan it to your computer and if they ring up, ask them if HR can provide an email address and you can email them a copy directly so that they can press a few keys and then press "ENTER" so that it saves them on their phone calls to you

if only it was that simple. i asked them that on both occasions as i said if it gets lost i can resend it...they said no this is not company policy we cannot accept and email as it can be tampered with!
i only posted it because work isnt exactly close to me, i dont drive and have terrible anxiety about leaving the house right now. honestly they are making my life a living hell but i just know as soon as i go back they will try and say ive not followed company policy and will try and sting me with a warning of some sort
