  • Employment Law: Change to require carried forward annual leave to be take by date

Currently, 5 days of annual leave can be carried over into the following year. Can an employer adjust this policy (impose) such that an additional clause is added that requires the carried over days to be taken before a given point in time (e.g. if the year runs 1 Jan to 31 Dec, carried forward holiday must be taken by 31 Mar).

Must employees be consulted and what if they object?

    Yes, No, and Tough.
(Unless affected employees are absent due to sickness, maternity leave etc. from 1 Jan to 31 Mar.)
