  • Rota change

Hi there, first post so please be gentle with me !

I work for a large HE employer and work a 24/7 shift pattern. The rota is put out 12 months in advance but anyway its a 5 week rota so you can clearly work out what you'll be working well in advance.

In one of the weeks, we work 1 8 hr and 1 9 hr shift ( this was done to ensure that we averaged 37 hrs a week over the year )

About 6 months ago a member of management put out a document asking us if we wanted to change the 9 hr shift to and 8 hr shift but then work an extra day a year of their choosing instead.

I've no wish to work an extra day a year and said so. There has been no further written communication and certainly nothing from HR or the Union, which the original letter said would happen.

There are whispers that this change has already occured.

Where do I stand on this please ?

I've been in this particular job for 10 years.

    Re: Rota change

I've now been told that it isn't a change of contract, as I'm employed to work 24/7, 365, and that as "they" didn't think I was in the Union that "they" didn't have to consult with the union. They go on to state that I haven't given a reason why I am objecting and that I have said I do not "wish" to work an extra day, rather than stating I will NOT work the extra day.
I've so far had no response from my union....HELP !
