  • 'Unfair' dismissal revenge.

Why you shouldn't let your emotions get the better of you.

"A sacked employee who caused £175,000 worth of damage when he went on a rampage at his former workplace was jailed for 20 months today.

Wayne Crook, 40, was 'hellbent on revenge' when he attacked every room at Bristol Flying Centre with a hammer.

Crook smashed windows and doors, the company’s vehicle, computers and daubed the words 'gross misconduct' in blood on one wall.
Every desk, toilet and telephone was broken in a spree of 'systematic' destruction at the company, which handles business aviation for Bristol Airport."

Doubly so - he was rather lucky that the employer settled the dismissal claim because it was gross misconduct and he would never have won a tribunal! Moving an aircraft when you aren't qualified to do so? What else would anyone call that?

20 month and the monster Stuart Hall got 15 month, maybe he didn't cause any monetary damage but the damage to them kids is worth more than money imho.

Last week BAe here completed the last wave of the redundancies announced nearly 2 yrs ago.-My son's dept was involved and everyone of them was told to go home and await a letter to be delivered by courier the next morning

Those "at risk" were told not to report in for 30 days

Those "not at risk" were told to come back to work next day (my son ok btw)

I believe this is an American way to stop occasions as described in first post

Absolutely right Di, it seems yet again the law can be a farce, I did read though that Stuart Hall could only be given the sentence that was applicable at the time of the offences which seems bloody weird to me.

Unfortunately, Sapphy, English and International Law does not permit new laws or amendments to existing laws to be applied retrospectively. This has been the case for a number of years. The only exception to the rule is in the case of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

It is whether the Court of Appeal will allow an appeal against sentence, Wales. If the CPS or Home Secretary is seen to be attempting to apply laws retrospectively, the attempt will be slapped down and an appeal disallowed. The Tories have been caught trying to change and use the law to make it fit lawbreaking on their part in the past and it has spectacularly backfired in their faces as well as those seeking to benefit from it. This happened with the TUPE directive and it cost a load of Thatcherite employers dearly, some very dearly. Politicians should keep their noses and interfering hands out of decisions made by judges unless the judge involved is clearly and totally incompetent.
