Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me? This is my first time here.
Ok, this is a bit of a long story. I qualified as a dentist in summer 2010 then went on to do some training posts. I found what was to be a permanent job and I started 30/04/12 (but then finished 04/09/12).
It was a 2 surgery practice - me and the owner. The owner seemed ok at interview - she promised me that this was an ethical place, that I'd have freedom to do what I wanted etc. etc. (just as you would expect).
However, I was subjected to constant harassment e.g. ; verbal slurs in front of all staff regarding my competence (unfounded), persistent unethical demands (what I can/can't offer to NHS patients), constantly criticising my income, refusing to buy equipment that I needed for the job (had to buy things myself) etc. etc. etc. the list goes on and on and on.
I'm the type of person who finds it impossible to cope when stuff like that is going on. I saw a solicitor and he could see the stress that it was causing me and advised not to return to this workplace because the stress will cause errors to occur.
Therefore, I informed the owner (and NHS admins) that I was not prepared to return to such a hostile environment - and that was that.
I did however, have great concerns about not only the owner's behaviour towards me, but also the standard of care that patients were receiving (very poor). I therefore contacted the General Dental Council and this is an ongoing investigation.
Subsequently, the owner has filed a complaint about me - supposedly she has found problems with my work. I've never had problems before - if these are true then it was caused by the constant harassment I was receiving.
I am currently dealing with my indemnity organisation but they are just very cold and offer no support. I just hope that the circumstances are looked at.
