  • Tesco Privilege Card Misuse

I haven't posted on here before so I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I have a question regarding the use of the Tesco staff privilege card.

I work for Tesco and I allowed a transaction to be processed where a lady used a privilege card. I didn't question this as it is never normally policy/procedure to ask for another staff member's ID when using their card. I'm aware that only the card holder is permitted to use the card or someone else at their registered address.

Since this transaction took place, it has come to light that the lady was using a card which actually belonged to her daughter (i.e. misuse of the card). I haven't been approached about the transaction yet but I overheard some managers discussing it and I'm worried that they will try to press disciplinary because I allowed the transaction..... I'm not even sure if the lady mentioned that it wasn't her card... I can't remember in that much detail but I'm sure if she had that I wouldn't have allowed the transaction to take place.

I have no record of any disciplinary action on my staff file.

I'm just worried and looking for some advice.

To be honest, if the procedures you have been taught is NOT to ask for proof that they are a member of staff then you do not have to worry. The daughter does and it may have come to their attention if the daughter was at work at another store and card useage is seen during that period of time. As I said, I am kinda speculating on someone else's disciplinary issues.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Thank you for your quick response.

That's what I thought. Of course we would inquire if a female presented a card with a man's name on the front but not at any another time. I am pretty sure it will all fall to the daughter as she knows she shouldn't allow other people to use her card as it is considered gross misconduct and a sackable offence and yes, she was at work in another store at the time the card was used.

I think it will be alright but it's difficult not to worry when you're directly involved in something like this. Especially as Tesco management is my career plan!!

Unless the card has her date of birth on it and you would hardly question a woman's age(not from a male perspective anyway cos of the slap that might be likely ) then unless you knew the person directly there is 100% nothing for you to worry about since it was her that allowed her card to be used in a manner contrary to staff guidelines.
