  • Self Employment

    Hello

My husband currently has no work - and he is self employed. Does anyone know whether it is possible to "sign on" at the job centre and then if he does get some work, declare it etc?

He spoke to a woman before Christmas at a job centre and she was very rude and awkward with him and basically said he could not be self employed and "sign on".

We're just wondering whether she was wrong - he literally has nothing coming in work wise at the moment!

    Many thanks

    Hi Birdie,

As far as I know hun it all depends on if you are up to date with your 'stamps'.

Thanks Saffy. He is not up to date - I'd better pay it soon rather than later then and try again!

Hi I had the same problem, He can sign on. There is two types INCOMBE BASED & STAMP BASED. I could only get incombe based as my stamps were not up to date.

Getting money took months but caused problems with council tax, somthing like I had a claim but was not in reciept of any money so I was responsible for it myself. GOOD LUCK
