Exit interview

Hello.

In a nutshell, I've resigned and leaving shortly.

Had an email from hr inviting me to a "exit interview ".

I'm presuming this isn't obligatory, as one could simply say nothing any way.

They're comon nowadays. Usually with HR or someone who is outside your line management/work team. Company is hoping to learn why staff are leaving and feed it back into their future planning. They aren't intended to resolve individual grievances. Unless you feel so enraged by the company/your manager that you might say something you'd later regret there's usually no reason not to go.

In theory you could be directed to attend but in practice it's voluntary for the reason you say. Unless people are there willingly they won't say what they actually think and the whole exercise would be of no use to the company.
