  • Suitable alternative redeployment - permanent vs contract external funded

I work for local authority and have been for the past 43 years. I'm currently on my 12-week notice period that due to end on 1st July. I've been contacted by my manager to discuss a redeployment opportunity for a position that is externally funded by HLF (heritage lottery) which is on a contract period of 12-months. Even though the funding for the project if for 10-years part of Priority Place funding.

How do I stand if the position meets my job profile (suitable in terms of job profile) but is not a permanent in the council's structure. I'm concerned if refused that I may not be entitled to redundancy and pension etc., but if accepted what will be employment rights going forward. Any views please?

My advice is to speak to your employer's personnel department about your worries concerning redundancy payment and pension. Individual LA's have their own redundancy schemes

As well if you are speaking to HR then you need to find out what is the impact of continuous service if the role is only going to last 12 months?
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.

HR have confirmed it won't impact on my continuous service. However, it's a fixed term contract and not permanent as there's currently only 12-months funding in place, with possible extension beyond that period. So in 12-months I could be in the same position as now being redeployed/redundant.

If they are prepared to preserve continuous employment for this new 12 month contract then at the end of this period you will be, as you say in the same position as now. However at least you will have retained the certainty of income for that period.
