  • Organisational Restructuring

Hi all. I have a question regarding the restructuring of my department.

I've recently joined a new company 4 months ago. The recruitment process throughout was fantastic and I was really pleased to be working with the line manager who recruited me. It's now looking likely that there is going to be an internal restructuring that will insert another layer of management. They will sit above my level and below my current line manager.

I'm not relishing the thought of this new model and I believe it will drastically change my experience at work. This new manager will have LM responsibility over me (PDR, goal setting etc). The bottom line for me, is that this fantastic job that I was really pleased to get will be changed dramatically. I feel that although subtly, the team ethos will be very different.

Do I have any means or right of recourse in this situation?

In my opinion you don't. Best to wait and see what happens. It may not be as bad as you think. You may be on 6 months probation so my advice is not to rock the boat
An extra line of management normally means a greater opportunity for promotion.
A bigger problem may arise when a line of management is removed in an organisation to save money. The manager left at the top has more staff to supervise which can lead to raised stress level

I agree that you do not appear to have any legal recourse.

Discuss the situation and your concerns with management..

Are you in a position to apply for the role that is going to be created?
