  • Likely to lose job but not her fault

My daughter has worked for her employer for 5 years 6 months. Recently the employer announced a job "reshuffle". She, and others, have been mapped to a job and may also apply for one other job of the same grade. She scored 56% for a job in finance (A) and 55% for a Project Planner assistant job (B). She does not want to work in finance, having changed career 20 years ago after being in banking for 12 years.

Job B is mostly her existing job with other bits added in. There are four applicants.

She did not believe the mapping and did her own, which scores 33.3% job A and 65% job B. Her employer has refused her request for independent re-mapping. They say they will keep her score for job B at 55% but revise her score for job A down to 33.3%.

If she is not the preferred applicant for job B, she will essentially be out of work because the employer will not employ anyone whose mapping score is less than 50%.

Her union agree that she has multiple concerns to raise via the grievance procedure but want to delay any grievances until after the expected interviews this coming Thursday.

1 - is it unreasonable to complain now (ie before interview) about the failure to agree to independent re-mapping?

2 - any suggestion about a way forward would be appreciated.

I am asking on her behalf because the stress and the fact that she may lose her job are making her ill.

    Thank you

I guess the reasoning from the union is that if she gets job B following the interview, which I believe from your post is the one that she wants, then there is no issue. In which case, at the moment the only grievance is that her request for independent mapping has been refused but as it stands that is all. The extent of the consequence of this will not be known until after the outcome of the interview on Thurs.

Depending on what that outcome is would determine whether there is a grievance to raise.

There are a lot of issues that her union say should be the subject of the grievance procedure. I just targeted the Mapping that is at the source.

      Thank you
