Can I have some HR related advice please?
A HR manager has told my friend who’s been with their new company for 7 working days as a HR Advisor that she should go away and think about whether this job is for them because she didn’t go on her lunch break with them on one shift, and because she wasn’t making small talk when she was trying to get to grips with her new role.
The manager has effectively stated that she should go away and think about whether this role is for them before a decision is made for her.
I also work in HR and have advised that it could be construed as discrimination (she is currently being assessed for ADHD/AUTISM with a likely diagnosis), it’s manipulation, gas lighting and unfair. She hasn’t made any mistakes, has actively been speaking with the team when she has a free moment or about work matters, and is coming to grips with a whole new role.
her line manager also said she was ‘possibly judging her’ off another member of the team, and she said to her that she’s usually a good judge of character but did she get it wrong.
As I said, she’s new to the role but at the time was really enjoying it, but now she feels like her personality has been ripped to shreds because she’s not bouncing around the room when she’s trying to learn things and has been left deflated, upset and conflicted. I’ve advised her to speak with her line manager and not to take the weekend as she was previously instructed as it is better to address the issue head on. She’s not made any mistakes and always works from home 3 days a week so she’s only physically been in the office twice and doesn’t understand why she has been personally attacked the way she has.
any advice on how to proceed with this would be greatly appreciated!!
