  • Off work sick with Covid symptoms. Company treating me wrongly

Hi, hoping someone may be able to help!

I work for a big global retail brand in the UK, I am currently off work due to a horrible sickness which i think is covid.

I followed the correct absence procedure and let my company know that I wasn’t able to make my shift last weds. My store managers response was “are you serious?”. She then proceeded to send me messages calling me dramatic and that i was just pulling a sicky with the sniffles.
Since then she has been making remarks blatantly aimed at me in the work group whatsapp trying to make me feel guilty and inadequate for being off sick.

Since then i’ve been constantly harassed asking when I would be back to work.

Furthermore, when I said I was still poorly and wouldn’t be able to attend my shift today I was told that since I couldn’t get cover i would have to work. Firstly, it’s not my responsibility to find cover? Secondly, i don’t want to risk making my team/customers ill?

No one else in my team is treated like this when they’re off sick and they don’t even follow procedure.

This has added loads of stress and anxiety when I am trying to rest. I’ve been made to feel completely ostracized.

Firstly, you say you have ".. a horrible sickness which i think is covid." Have you actually tested positive for Covid or are you just presuming without actually testing?

Have you spoken to HR about the treatment from your manager. If not, I suggest an informal chat with them may be the first course of action for you to take.
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
If you have any doubts then do please seek professional legal advice.
