Looking for some advice. I work in retail and my daughter also work for same company. I have worked there for over 13 years with good attendance. This particular company has changed so much in past few years, as i imagine a lot of have. One thing I have noticed is the way that management are treating staff. My daughter who also has good attendance, was off sick on Sunday. She called in and spoke to a manager and he noted it and told her that he has taken her out of next shift ( she works hospitality so cannot work there if 24 hour bug) Monday) she was to call in if she was feeling better and would be working another department on Monday. She wasn’t better.
When i was on my lunch yesterday I passed store manager, floor manager and another member of staff ( who is part of our worker rights team) the floor manager asked me how my daughter was and why she had not called in yesterday. I found this highly inappropriate as was also in front of customers shopping. I left the floor, called my daughter who explained conversation on Sunday and showed me she had been taken out her shift on Monday. I went back to them and explained and they said it’s obviously a miscommunication. The manager had not passed anything on to them. I’m going to speak to store manager on Friday about this but wanted some advice before I do. I feel they should have checked with manager at the time before approaching me, her mum, in front of staff and customers. Especially as she could have been with something very serious and did they expect to reply there on shop floor. It was so very unprofessional. Thank you in advance for your advice.
