    Hi
    (Apologies for lengthy message).
I have worked for NHS for over 15 years.

Unexpectedly (no job advertising, interviews, etc), one Friday afternoon I was offered a temporary team leaders role. I asked to decide over the weekend but the manager wanted a decision immediately. I had to consult my family before I could make a decision as the job involved a lot of overtime.

The job was offered to my colleague, who "bit her hand off", as she put it. I have nothing against my colleague, he's young, recently completed his apprenticeship so it wasn't a surprise when he accepted the job.

When I questioned the manager she said my colleague showed good skills in the 3 months that I was off sick due to covid.

I worked in the same team for 15 years and I have 10 years teaching experience (managing students).

I can't believe that they didn't notice my skills. I have 15+ years of experience and professional training including project management.

She said had we both accepted the job then there would had been formal interview process which would have taken a few weeks. Therefore, there was no urgency to appoint a new team leader immediately.

I fee I was hard done, possible racial discrimination.

    Is there a legal case?

    Thanks

From wht you say the decisive factor appears to have been the willingness to make an immediate decision. That is a bit tough and may be unwise, but it does not suggest that race formed any part of that decision.
What you decsribe about a possible de;lay does not show that there was not a need or desire to get an immediate decision, only that if it was not possible other arrangements, less attractive, might be necessary.
The fact is that you were offered the job.
