By trade I am a software developer and work at a high level in that field i.e. Principal level.
I accepted a job in a slightly different field (Network Architecture) at a standard level as it is an area I wanted to work my way up in.
Two weeks after starting this new job as a network architect, the company (a very large one) decided that it no longer wanted the role and all Architects were put at risk of redundancy.
As part of the process the company identified an alternative role (NOTE NOT A SUITABLE ALTERNATIVE ROLE) which could be applied for which was Standard level Software Developer, but to get this role I would have to pass a 5 hour competency interview and then a technical test too.
All of my requests to look into my back ground as a Principal level developer fell on deaf ears, and formal questions were unanswered as I felt that the role was not an alternative for my skill set and background.
As I was not entitled to redundancy payment and the job being offered firstly has a horrendous process to get and then was below my skill level I felt that I had to look for alternative work at another company to get a role at a relevant grade.
Does this constitute constructive dismissal, or is there just no legal protection at all for new starters at a company? Sadly I believe it is the later
Thanks so much for your help.
