Hello, I would appreciate if someone could advise me please:
I have been working for a College for almost 20 years, about 6 months ago I was verbally/physically abused by a student. The head for the student refused to suspend the student stating the student has issues. my own manager also didn't support me so I walked out of work - this caused me great stress/anxiety/depression so I have been of sick since.
My Employers referred me to a mental health doctor/specialist who (after seeing me) wrote to them that "your employee is not fit for work for for the post I am employed for and if he does return then it wont be until at least another 5 months or and needs therapy and medication...
I have now been put on half wage now by my employers which is another stress for me.
This is not the first time I have been let down and not supported by my employers so even if I get better I don't feel comfortable going back coz this will repeat again so I am in desperate need of advise as to what I should/can do and what I shouldnt/can't.
    thanks you

Firstly is the reduction to half wages consistent with the college's sick pay policy? I do know that many educational estalbishments have a sliding scale of reducing sick pay depending on length of time absent.

When is the five months indicated by the mental health doctor/specialist as being a timescale in which you may be able to return to work up? My view would be that in anticipation of this the college should in advance, look to get an Occupational Health assessment carried out and part of this should be consideration of what reasonable adjustments are recommended for your return to work such as phased return to work, changes to duties etc.
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com
