I was with my ex employer for around 16 months, back in March my dad passed away and my boss rang me and said they would gift me £3000 towards the funeral.
A month later my wife miscarried and I hot depression, I told my line manager about this and thought everything was OK. I was later demoted from a team leader position and rang my line manager the following day to say I wasn't going to be in that day so I could see my GP for further help with the depression.
I then got an email from our CEO dismissing me for gross misconduct, aggressive behaviour and bringing the company into disrepute, non of which I'd actually done.
On my last payroll they added the £3000 I'd previously recieved as a gift onto my wages as an advance taxed me on this then deducted the £3000 back.
I've since been in contact with ACAS and my ex employer has reluctantly agreed to repay the deducted tax but have stated they reserve the right to pursue the £3000 should it become necessary.
What does this mean?
Should I be worried?
Will they take me to court for this money?
