I was working for a temp agency (Insight Global) and assigned to one of the major motion pictures studios in Los Angeles as a 100% remote worker. My job was to help studio employees with their accounting and database software. The temp agency cancelled my contract with them on Friday Nov. 19th at 6 PM but did not inform me of this action until Sunday at 7:48 PM. The temp agency canceled my health insurance plan on Friday but never told me. There was a two day period where I was without health insurance because my employer did not provide me with notification. What can I do? Additionally, the temp agency (Insight Global) informed me that my contract was being ended due to "performance". I received a telephone call a week later from the head of the department at the studio and was told that I was not being let go due to performance, instead the decision was simply based on evolving business needs and that they intended to keep me on for three more weeks to let me have sufficient time to adjust and complete any outstanding projects. The department head said "We are very angry at Insight Global for how this went, we did not intend for you to be immediately dropped. This is not how this studio conducts business"
What can I do?
I understand that my contract with Insight Global and the Studio could be ended for any reason at any time, but I am concerned that I was not notified about my health insurance being canceled in time to secure new insurance. If I was injured that weekend I would have been uninsured through no fault of my own.
Thank you kindly.
