  • Made redundant on my first day of new job

I started a new job on the 15th of October and in the first day I was given 1 weeks notice. Now I’m at risk of being unemployed. I had a good job before I started here. I went through telephone interviews and face to face interviews, crb checks and quite intensive pre employment checks. And I’ve been given 1 weeks notice on my first day because the job is apparently not available.
Is this process right, I’ve tried to go back to my former employer but my job is unavailable again and has been covered. I don’t know what to do, it’s affecting my mental health and I have bills to pay. What can I do. Any advice.

    Hi JAMEYJONES

That's not great. I'd want to find out when the company knew that your new job was 'unavailable'. I'd want a full explanation as you have given up an existing job to start the new job. I would write a letter of complaint send it to HR and the CEO of the company. Also try not to stress yourself, that won't achieve much.

ULA Please can you look and advise, many thanks.

Sorry to hear you are in such an unfortunate situation and of course you can as echat11 has said contact HR or a senior manager for a further explanation if you feel you have not been given an adequate one so far.

In terms of what your rights are, they are unfortunately very limited and all I can do is help advise you to ensure you get your correct amount of notice.

In the pre-employment process that you went through were you provided a contract of employment? If so, did it have any clause/s regarding notice periods and if so what provision was there for notice by the employer to you?

Statutory notice by an employer to an employee is at least one week's notice if you have worked for your employer for anywhere between one month and two years. I appreciate that you have only just joined the company, however they may have decide to defer to the one week as being your entitlement to notice, unless the contract of employment states otherwise. So please check as if the notice is any contract you may have been provided states more than a week then this is what you should be paid.

Other than your notice period there is no other entitlement to any further payments.
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
If you have any doubts then do please seek professional legal advice.
