  • Holiday Overpayment

I was wondering if I could get some advice on a letter I have just received.

I left a job working for Morrisons at the end of August. I had taken more holiday than my entitlement. After talking to HR before I left, they said that my last wage would probably cover the holiday taken. I didn't receive any of my last pay after holiday deductions.

I have now received a letter printed on Morrisons letterheaded paper, inside an envelope with the logo of DWF printed on it. I recognise DWF as they were trying to get money from my mother at one point for something or other.

    The letter follows:

    "
    05/10/2021

    Dear Sir/Madam,

    Employee ID:**********
    Balance due: £205.00

You left your employment with us on 26 August 2021and we are writing to you as it has come to our attention that you were overpaid by £205.00.

The balance is made up of the following payments:

    Amount (£) : 205.00
    Paid (£) :
    Description : Holiday

Please arrange for payment of the balance to be made by 19 October 2021 to our solicitors, DWF, by one of the following methods:
    "
Various payment methods follow including an address to send a cheque to DWF.

Contact details of an email address and telephone number for DWF are given as a means of contact.

If I owe money then I am happy to pay it back over a couple of months. But seeing the DWF logo makes me wonder whether I actually owe anything in the first place!

    How should I proceed?

    Hi TACOHEAD

It does sound a bit suspect given, what was said to you. Send HR an email requesting a summary of holidays taken and deductions made.

Explain what was said to you at the time 'After talking to HR before I left, they said that my last wage would probably cover the holiday taken'.
