  • Overtime and mileage

    Hi

I currently travel to a permanent place of work 150 miles away on a Sunday (I don't get paid mileage or overtimefor this) and returning home usually after work on a Thursday evening (another 150 miles in my own time at my own expense)

Basically I'm giving the company 5 hours of my time unpaid and 300 miles of fuel per week. This instinctively feels amoral especially as sub contractors get paid for travel and get mileage paid.

What do you think of my current situation.

    Regards

    Hi ONLYTRYING

That clearly is 'unfair', what does your employment contract state regarding 'traveling to / from work and costs'? How long have you worked for the company?

I would raise a informal grievance, a chat with your boss, HR etc (someone that has the authority to compensate you), see what they say, if you are still unhappy, then raise a formal grievance in writing. Whilst doing this keep a diary, just in case you encounter day to day issues.

No doubt ULA will provide further advice.

      Hi Onlytrying.

Please before you start any grievance process as advised at post #2 can you confirm your contractual status.

Are you employed by the company on a permanent contract of employment?

Has your contract always stated that your place of work is the location 150 miles from your home or has there been a recent change in location in office location?

If there has been a recent change was their a mobility clause in your contract?

Have you personally moved meaning that your work location is now 150 miles away?

      Thank you.

Unfortunately as a permanent employee traveliing to and from your normal place of work as stated in your contract of employmen, the repsonsibiltiy for getting to the work location is yours. it is exactly the same as someone who does for example a 60 mile round trip to work 5 days a week, they have to pay their own expenses for travelling.

The arrangements that the company has with sub-contractors will be based on specific contracts with these individuals who will not be employees of the company.
