My son has been working in a major supermarket for over 6 months. Today was his first sunday shift from 5pm - midnight. It didnt occur to him that the store would be shut when he arrived so he didnt bring any lunch thinking he could buy it at work as he usually does. When he realised he asked his manager if he could buy something for his lunch, the manager refused stating there are no tills open to take payment. He then asked if he could leave the store to get something to eat elsewhere, again the manager refused stating he is not allowed to open the doors until end of shift. My son asked if he could order takeaway and have it delivered, again cant open doors till end of shift.
Is the store breaching any employment law by refusing to let my son off the premises to take his break?
