  • Is the employer allowed to disclose my communications to the police?

    Hi everybody.
Briefly, I am facing a criminal investigation .And as a result, possible dismissal from my job.
I was called in to an investigatory hearing, the employer advised me that the meeting would be recorded and passed to the police.

However, I was wondering if I communicate with my employer in writing, regarding matters not related to the case, is the employer entitled/allowed to pass ANY and ALL communication of mine to the police?
I have an ongoing dispute with my employer regarding some unpaid wages. My concern is that in pursuing this, my employer will pass my communications to the police, which in turn may be used against me in some way - for example - to portray me in a less favourable light or that I am in some way of poor character.

Simply put, is all correspondence fair game to be sent off, or do I still have a right to privacy when discussing unrelated matters?

Hi Joey2020 does this issue relate to your other thread with the title of "Breach of confidentiality? Serious? Trust GDPR?". If so then I will merge the threads together as it is more helpful for this of us providing help to have all the related facts on one thread
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do not provide advice by PM although I may on occasion ask you to send me documents this way but any related advice will be provided back on your thread.

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
If you have any doubts then do please seek professional legal advice.

Hi thanks for the response but believe it or not they are two separate questions.
The first was to do with written communication from my employer being sent directly to my wife instead of me.
This is relating to my communications with work, and if there are any legal barriers to say that work are not allowed to pass all of my communications to the police (if those communications are not directly part of a discussion regarding the investigation).

It is likely that the police would have specified what information they require access to as part of their investigation. In which case your employer should only provide what has been requested. If you have other ongoing matters that you are in dispute with your employer over and they are not part of the police investigation, I am not sure why it would relvant to send this to the police.
