My employer has invited me to a works "investigatory hearing" relating to an alleged offence, currently being investigated by the police, which may or may not lead to disciplinary action at work.
My solicitor said they cannot advise on matters relating to employment law but said that I could either resign or I could attend the meeting and say that I am unable to answer their questions until the conclusion of the police investigation.
Does anybody have any wisdom/advice on what I should do?
If I resign I may preclude myself from the right to benefits and obviously I will suffer financially through loss of earnings.
If I attend the meeting, is my stance - that I am unable to answer questions - going to be considered reasonable? And what are the possible outcomes of co-operating without really co-operating?
