I work 3 days per week T/W/T for a national company as a delivery driver. I'm 66 years old and have worked for the company for about 7 years.
on Wednesday last I had a couple of items to deliver to a national company's depot.
To deliver to them you have to go through two lots of double doors both of which open towards you, I was OK with a biggish box in each hand on the first set as somebody held them open for me, but I was on my own for the next set that enters the main workshop. I put one box down, opened the rh door and pulled the lh door open at the same time, unfortunately for me the lh door came back too quick as none of their doors are fitted with closers and it caught the parcel and spun me around, I lost my balance and crashed to the concrete floor like a felled tree. I am 6'4" and 18 stone. It was lucky not to break my hip, I have severe bruising on my side and various muscles are bruised and now ache.
Because of my hip hurting it causes a problem with moving my leg onto the football when driving. People did rush to my aid to help, I was quite winded and struggled to get up.
There was no mention of filling out an accident book where it happened.
My own company have been a bit slow in logging it at their end as they cannot fathom whether it is a manual log or it is filled in online.
I took the following day off sick (thurs) and I was naturally off the next 4 days anyway.
Nobody has phoned me or been in touch.
I didn't know whether to maybe get signed off for a week to get over my aches and pains but I am worried that I might not get paid for those 3 days and the Thursday last.
I am due back to work this coming Tuesday.
Any advice appreciated and thanks for reading my post.
