    How long from an event does a person have to raise a grievance at work?
    A grievance was not proven against a person- not appealed. Now the person is thinking of raising one due to a minor swear word in response to what happened but their work have not proven. If that makes sense!

    A person needs to raise a grievance as soon as possible after either a singular or series of events.

      Could they wait to see if the person appeals if not then go and raise after 3-4 weeks since the incident? Is there anything in law or just a policy issue on when? Thanks for replying.

        It may be written in your company's grievance procedure what the timescales from the event or series of events you want to complain are however if not then the ACAS code of conduct on raising a grievance states that employees should raise a grievance as soon as possible after the incident.

        By raising the grievance too far after the event, which in my opinion 3-4 weeks is, you potentially make it difficult for a thorough investigation to be carried out and secondly may give the impression that it cannot be really that important if you have left it so long after the event to raise the grievance.

          No doubt about the swear word. My girlfriend's employer knows this as she, this person and I think it was two witnesses confirm the swear word but nothing else. Yet she has nothing from employer this was few weeks back.

            Sorry since you have not given much detail of what this is about I can only respond to the questions you have asked about timescales to raise a grievance.

              She raised a grievnence- had her meeting- not upheld. She is now worried the person she raised the issue over will strike a grievance as the evidence confirms the swear word. Was a racial incident-been handled poor but the ''offender'' is moving. So partner is not worried- just will never report any issue sen/heard again.

                Thank you for the further detail which is very helpful.

                If the person concerned wanted to raise a grievance then they should not leave it too long before they do. Hopefully if they are moving though that will be the end of the matter.

                  If the the ''offender'' was not moving and her work are now aware weeks in, never mentioned any potential action on the swearing in her grievance meeting could this block any action from the offender weeks in?
