  • Redundancy and Nepotism

The company I work is not a family own, it’s a big company that has branches across Europe. So I have been put up for redundancy with a few other people who I work with and there are two roles available.
So last year I was the only person within the branch who had my job title until this lady was put up for redundancy and they created a job within my role even though my boss said there is not enough work for two people, considering since 2017 I have asked for my hours to increase with them saying no.
This lady husband is the area director so he will know when redundancy will be happening how he will prevent his wife from losing her job. This is probably how she got a job last year in my job role.
Now redundancy have popped up again and now and they only want one person for admin role, so both have to go for interviews for this role.
This lady and her husband are both friends with the people who are doing the interviews, so I feel like I will be at disadvantaged as they will tell her what they will ask in the interview and also how to answer it.
My manager last week even said he not doing interviews as he doesn’t want it to be bias yet he asked these people knowing how close everyone is, as my manger and one of the people who are doing the interviews have worked somewhere else with each other.
Area Director is married to the lady who I am up against
Area Director and his wife are friendly with my manager
Area director, the wife and the manager are all friends with the people who are doing interviews and one of these people are in HR.
So I feel this job interview is not going to be fair on my behalf and is there anything that I could do?

I would suggest that in the first instance you raise your concerns informally with your HR department and ask whether a "neutral manager" with maybe someone from HR could conduct the interviews to avoid any bias.
If you would like a one-to-one expert consultation with me on your employment issue than I can be contacted by emailing admin@legalbeaglesgroup.com

I do my best to provide good practical advice, however I do so without liability.
If you have any doubts then do please seek professional legal advice.
