  • Wife over 70 and I could be asked to go back to work

Hi I have been on furlough since it first started for a three week period which was extended by another three weeks, so coming up to six weeks at the end of this week. I am 66 in June and my wife is 72 and extremely worried and doesn't want me to return to my workplace of three days a week if they get in touch with me. What are my options in this regard? Can I stand by the fact she is classed as 'at risk' and not return and would I be entitled to any pay, extended reduced (60%) furlough, SSP or the like? Thankyo

I would suggest that you speak with your employer and voice your concerns. If you did not return to work then your employer does not have to pay you, however you could request to continue to be furloughed, be allowed to work from home or use some of your annual leave to take paid time off.*
