  • Sent home from work (on SSP) for no reason.

Anyone here able to offer me some advice?
I was sent home from work within 5 minutes of being at work yesterday for coughing in the work canteen from swallowing a drink the wrong way (no one saw this thank god!)
I was then immediately told I had to go home as someone heard it from the office (it lasted all of 10 seconds).* They won't allow me back to work now for a week despite me having no symptoms whatsoever of coronavirus, or anything else for that matter. Our company doesn't pay sick pay* (just SSP) so for this week I'm taking a massive loss in money.**
Is this fair for them to do? I rang 111 and obviously got told I was fine and no reason to not work but my workplace is having none of it even though every shred of evidence points to the fact I'm fine.* What can I do here? Anything?*

People are vey on edge understandably at the moment if anyone coughs, even if is not related to having the coronavirus.

I would suggest that if the company made the decision to send you home at their own request, probably on health and safety grounds and you are not sick then they should pay you whilst you are off.*

Is there any chance that you can work at home?

I work for a printing firm as a supervisor so pretty much my entire job is hands on at the premises so that's not really an option.* I could ask for the time to be paid as holiday but that still seems wrong seeing as there is no reason for me to not be in work.

I suggest that you go back to your employer and explain that you have contacted 111 and they have confirmed you have no symptoms but if they are requiring you to stay at home then since this is at their requirement it should be on full pay.*
