  • Lay-off days

My company have just given out letters to say we are shutting for 4 weeks. For the first 2weeks they are going to pay us lay off pay (normal pay less shift Premium). *Now the second 2weeks they are saying that that are taking it out of our holiday pay (we normally shut down for 3weeks during summer months every year)
Can they do this as a lot of people are up in arms about it.*

We are facing very challenging times at the moment and I appreciated how worried people are.

Clearly the company has a lay-off policy and I presume the arrangements are in line with that. In regard to holiday, yes a company can require you to take holiday so long as they give you the requisite number of days notice. The required notice is
twice as many days in advance of the earliest day specified in the notice as the number of days to which the notice relates.
