  • Can phi be refused due to alcohol problems?

    Hi*
I hope someone can help.* *
I have MS. It is so bad that I am now in a wheelchair and unable to work. I've been off work for over 9 months.
My employer has group protection insurance with Canada Life who are currently awaiting a report from my neurologist.* * * *Unfortunately I've seen the report and my alcohol consumption is mentioned 4 times in the report.* It basically says that I'm an alcoholic as well as having MS.
I made the mistake of telling neuro that I drank half a bottle of wine a night and hes declared.me an alcoholic.* * * Can phi be refused?* *

Yes it is possible. If you still have any problems with alcohol addiction visit https://addictionresource.com/drug-rehab/locator/. Very good website where you can find answers on alcohol-related questions.

Generally yes insurance will exclude any form of drugs and drink as it’s an easy way out for the insurer. I would specifically check the policy wording Under the exclusions section. If it does not specifically exclude it then you can argue that it is included by presumption if the cover is denied.*
