  • Gross misconduct?

My wife has had an email from her employer saying that she has failed to give medication correctly and not followed the company procedure regarding reporting of medication. The errors were made by her area and not her as she was only in with the patient once and has not made this error. The email she has mentions that it 'may' amount to gross misconduct and 'potentially' result in her dismissal. Everyone else in her area had the disciplinary last week and one person lost his job because of this and a few other issues he caused
I feel this is the company following procedure as she is the last to have this meeting and there has been no rush to get this meeting done. And seeing as she didn't make this mistake then they have no recourse against her but she is panicking over the email. Can anyone advise?

Hi, is the email a formal request for your wife to attend a disciplinary meeting? If so did it provide the evidence that is going to be relied on at the meeting? Did the email also give your wife the right to be accompanied by a colleague or union rep? I ask these questions because I want to make sure they have followed the correct procedure in setting up the meeting.

I know this must be really scary for your wife particularly as she does not believe that she made the mistake. What she needs to do between now and the meeting is prepare her side of what happened giving details of the one time that she was with the patient i.e. why she was with the patient, what she did, how long she was with the patient. Also if any evidence has been provided as she believes it to be inaccurate she needs to be able to state reasons why she believes this.

Hope this helps but if you have any more questions just pop back to this thread.
