TUPE question

Good morning, I'm a newbie on here so please forgive if I either post too little/much info.

I am a self employed cleaner, at present I work for myself and I work alone.

A month or so ago I was asked if I would be interested in a cleaning contract, I priced the job and everything was agreed, they had to give one months notice of termination to their current cleaner.
However when they did, she brought up 'TUPE'

Apparently this means I have to employ her, is this true?

I don't want to start employing people, and I certainly don't want to be forced to employ a cleaner who is so bad at her job she has been sacked, only for her to be allowed to work in a company she has been sacked from?

Any advice gratefully received.

If the cleaner was operating as self employed on a contract, as you are, and not an employee then she is wildly off the mark claiming TUPE. She lost the contract, tough.
