I've been working for an agency for 8 weeks now and have noticed that the percentage of tax & NI deductions increases with the amount of money I'm being paid. My average weekly pay is about £750-£800 and was paying on average, before the new tax rate came into effect, about 25% for both tax & NI. After 6th April now I'm paying an average of 30% and this rose to 34% this week after the extra Easter bank holiday rates. Can anyone give me advice on what action to take after I have asked them for an explanation? Thanks in advance.

NI and tax is made up of different bands. This means that as your income increases so too does the amount of both you will pay. You can certainly ask your agency how they are calculating your NI and tax to be certain that they are doing so correctly.
