I was forced to sign a new employment contract yesterday stating a 20% drop in my annual earnings. They are using an incident that happened some 3 weeks ago, where a fitting I did, come undone and fell off. The director and I both returned to the site, saw the customer, checked and I repaired the works. I admitted responsibility for the defective works and carried out the corrective works to the customers satisfaction. I was given a piece of paper, yesterday morning, with a couple of lines on it telling me that I needed to attend a meeting with the director. I did this and was advised at the start of the meeting that I needed to put the vehicle keys and office keys on the table (which I did), in the meeting we discussed the incident. We took a 15 minute break and they produced this new contract for me to sign. I was told I needed to sign it immediately, and so signed it under pressure. I wasn't given the opportunity to read it over, understand it, I was told to sign immediately. I have worked for the company for over a year and have never had any incidents. I've never been cautioned or given any warnings of any kind.
I am very unhappy about this, but more importantly, I am very stressed out about this whole situation.
Where do I stand? What can I do about it?
